Selam Technical & Vocational College (STVC)

STVC is an extension of Selam Children’s Village. Since its establishment 20 years ago, it has grown to a well equipped and organized training college. The training is for orphans from Selam Children’s Village, other orphans as well as private applicants.

General Metal Fabrication and Assembly, Building Metal Work, Industrial Electric and Machine Drive Technology, Furniture Making, Machining, Automotive Service and Engine Mechanics as well as Auto Electricity training are being given at the newly introduced level 3 and level 4 programmes.

What makes STVC the only one of its kind in the country is that the trainees are directly involved in production in the course of their training (on-job-training).

STVC also gives short-term training in different fields like: welding upgrading, blacksmith, low cost building material production, etc.

The college had been participating in the street children training and capacitating program in collaboration with UNICEF in the past, and provided the same non-formal training in collaboration with Yeka Sub City Social & NGOs Affairs Office to enable children to become self-supportive citizens.

The Ministry of Education and GTZ/ecbp gave us the chance to prepare Selam for the ISO 9001:2000 certification. We introduced a quality management system based on international standards and passed the pre-audit. Selam is one institute among five who got this opportunity. The main idea of ISO certification is to satisfy the customer by delivering the best product or service. In the next few month we have to adapt our system to ISO 9001:2008.
